Bridge on the River Kwai.

Kanchanaburi is Thailand's third largest province, covering an area of 19,486 square kilometers. The provincial area is mountainous and borders Myanmar to the west. The province of Kanchanaburi consists of 13 districts. River Kwai bridge is one of the most Internationally famous in Kanchanaburi, thanks to several motion pictures and books. The bridge was the target of frequent Allied bombing raids during 1945, and was rebuilt after the war ended.

While Kanchanaburi province boasts some of Thailand's most popular national parks, the town itself is more a place to relax on a raft house and watch the water slide by. There are a few attractions such as the floating nun, the war museums and cemeteries along with the odd boat ride.
Kanchanaburi also has a great selection of bars and restaurants to choose from -- make the effort to steer clear of the backpacker places and throw yourself into the Thai food and nightlife scene -- it's vibrant and you'll meet many Thais who can speak good English here.
